Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin has suspended coach Markus Babbel with immediate effect, the club said in a statement.
Club and coach struggled to find a contract extension, Babbel said he already gave clear signs that he will not extend his contract while the club bosses argue that Babbel never came to a decision, Xinhua reported
“The latest developments, especially after the last two days we had no other choice. A trustful cooperation is not possible under these circumstances,” Hertha Berlin manager Michael Preetz said.
The 39-year-old Babbel joined Hertha in 2010 to lift them into first division this year.
“Michael Preetz informed me about my suspension by telephone but I think after the event of the last two days it’s the best solution. I’m also a bit happy that its over now”, coach Markus Babbel said.
For now, co-trainer Rainer Widmeyer will be the boss of the team until the club finds a successor.
